To keep hold of a standout player, Real Madrid is thinking of going against its transfer rules.
The Champions League final matchup between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund is still the team’s most important day of the year. They are, meanwhile, equally focused on the future, especially in the case of Dani Carvajal, a player who might win his record-tying sixth Champions League trophy on June 1.
According to Relevo, Real Madrid is thinking of giving the right-back a contract extension, which would guarantee him a spot in the team through at least 2026 and maybe even longer.
If Carvajal doesn’t sign an extension before it expires in the summer of 2025, he will only have 12 months remaining on his current contract by the 2024–2025 season.
Although it is not unusual for Los Blancos to extend the contracts of important players, this instance deviates from their custom. This is because, as is now the case with important players like Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, the majority of the team’s veterans over 30 are usually left to negotiate their contracts in the final 12 months.
Carvajal might, however, secure his future far sooner. According to the Relevo story, the club may offer him a two-year extension until 2027, breaking its rules and keeping him at the team until he is 35.
